Cuddles for Kids is pleased to announce that they will be awarding a $500 scholarship to a High School Senior graduating in 2017 that exemplifies exceptional community service in Cambria, Somerset or Blair Counties.
“I know firsthand how much receiving scholarships has helped me, having been the recipient of a few my senior year,” says Conner Hagins, a Johnstown native and founder of Cuddles for Kids. “I thought this was a great way to give back to someone who works hard to make their community a better place.”
This grant is made possible through Cuddles for Kids. A charity started by Hagins 10 years ago. Hagins is now a sophomore at La Roche College, where he serves as Director of Community Service for LaRoche’s Student Government. He is also a member of the soccer team, Student Athletic Advisory Committee and NSLS.
High School students who are interested in applying for the scholarship should submit an essay about the value of community service and what project they are passionate about along with a transcript of their grades to their school’s Guidance Counselor. High Schools in the Cambria/Somerset County area should submit the information on behalf of the eligible student directly to Cuddles for Kids. A committee will review the submissions and make an announcement in February in time for the school’s awards celebration.
Cuddles for Kids has donated over 106,000 (valued at over $400,000) toys, coloring books and stuffed animals to children’s agencies throughout the state of Pennsylvania and throughout the world. Additionally, Cuddles for Kids has issued over $16,000 in grants to agencies and projects benefiting children. For his efforts Conner was named the 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community High School Volunteer for Pennsylvania. He is also a multiple recipient of the President of the United States Volunteer Service Award.
