Cuddles for Kids is hosting the Third “Kicking It with the Kids” at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 1-3PM. Members of the men’s and women’s LaRoche College soccer teams will be in attendance having some soccer fun with the children. Also in attendance will be Shonda Moats; wife of Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker Arthur Moats, Maureen Kunitz; wife of Pittsburgh Penguins Chris Kunitz, Celina Pompeani; Pens TV Host, Miss Pennsylvania USA; Elena LaQuatra and Pittsburgh Steelers Mascot; Steely McBeam. The event will include a “mini soccer camp” and crafts for the patients of the hospital. Gifts will be distributed to those not able to leave their room. Each child will be given a soccer ball, toy and a keepsake craft.
This event is made possible through Cuddles for Kids. A charity started 10 years ago by Conner Hagins of Johnstown, PA. Conner is now a sophomore at La Roche College and a member of the men’s soccer team. He has delivered donations for years to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC but wanted to do something more interactive with the kids and is very excited about this event and bringing Cuddles for Kids to his new home away from home. Hagins will be making check presentations to The Ronald McDonald House in honor of Shonda Moats, The Mario Lemieux Foundation in honor of Maureen Kunitz and Children’s Hospital in honor of Celina Pompeani. Cuddles for Kids has donated over 116,000 (valued at over $430,000) toys, coloring books and stuffed animals to children’s agencies throughout the state of Pennsylvania and throughout the world. Additionally, Cuddles for Kids has issued over $16,000 in grants to agencies and projects benefiting children. For his efforts Conner was named the 2015 Prudential Spirit of Community High School Volunteer for Pennsylvania. He is also a multiple recipient of the President of the United States Volunteer Service Award. If you would like to help Cuddles for Kids, your tax-deductible donation may be mailed to Cuddles for Kids, 116 Market Street, Johnstown, PA, 15901. More information may be found at https://www.facebook.com/CuddlesForKids or www.cuddlesforkids.net. On November 15th from 11am-11pm BJ's Brewhouse will donate 20% of your total food and non alcoholic beverage total to Cuddles for Kids.
Cuddles for Kids is a charity founded by LaRoche sophomore; Conner Hagins. If you are planning to go out to eat we would hope you would consider dining for a good cause. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST BRING THE ATTACHED FLYER WITH YOU OR THEY WILL NOT DONATE TO CUDDLES FOR KIDS. A few reminders about toy and stuffed animal donations:
All toys and gifts must be newly purchased due to infection/safety concerns. Toys & stuffed animals exposed to smoke cannot be accepted. Donated items may be used as gifts to children of all ages! Hospitalized children have special health needs, so we must be extra careful with the types of gifts we can accept. For example, dust, smells (such as cigarette smoke and perfume) and animal hair can be harmful to kids who are already sick. What we can accept: New, unused items in original packaging that have been purchased within the last three months. New books, coloring books, crayon, school supplies, craft supplies, games, etc. What we cannot accept: Used toys New stuffed toys more than 24 inches tall Stuffed toys from vending machines or carnivals Food and/or candy Latex balloons or anything containing latex Sports cards Toys with violent themes or that are insensitive to a culturally diverse population. Thank YOU for your support and understanding! |
